Men's Tennis Top Anna Maria To Round Out Regular Season

The Suffolk University Men's Tennis team wrapped up their 2014 regular season with a 6-1 victory over Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Monday evening.

Sophomore Calixto Romero (Lima, Peru) would see his nine game singles winning streak come to an end as he was topped in straight sets by sophomore Dillon George (Holden, Mass.) with scores of 6-4, 6-1 in the top singles contest.

Suffolk would roll to a pair a pair of doubles victories when seniors Aaron Lau (Hong Kong, China) and Drew Reilly (Boston, Mass.) started things taking the top doubles game by an 8-4 score.

The Rams would win their second tandem match as senior Thay Thao (St. Paul, Minn.) and freshman Francesco Saia (Wakefield, Mass.) partnered for an 8-1 victory in the number two contest. Suffolk would win by default in the third match.

Thoa was the only Suffolk player to appear on the card twice on the evening as he was victorious in the fourth singles game winning a pair of matches, 6-1 and 6-4.

Junior Marc Winkler (Caracas, Venezuela) won the second singles contest with scores of 6-0 and 6-1. Senior Vasilli Stroganov (Hoersholm, Germany) was a winner in the third contest while sophomore Xiau Wang (Beijing, China) rounded out the field with a victory in the fifth singles game.

The loss ends the season for the AMCATS who wrap up 2014 with a 1-10 overall record and an 0-3 mark in GNAC play.

Suffolk improves to an 8-2 overall record with a 2-1 mark in GNAC play. Suffolk will now advance to the GNAC Tournament semifinals as they travel to Johnson & Wales University on Wednesday. The top seeded Johnson & Wales were the lone blemish in conference play for Suffolk this season defeating the Rams, 6-3 in their previous meeting on April 12.
