Charles Spurr joins Suffolk men’s soccer as an assistant coach for the 2019 season.
Spurr brings talent and professional experience to the Rams’ staff after a two-year stint with the Lane United Football Club.
On the field, Spurr became well known during his time with Macalester. Over his four-year career, he recorded 18 goals and 10 assists in 76 appearances to rank 15th on Macalester’s all-time scoring list. The three-time All-MIAC selection, two of which were first-team accolades, and two-time NSCAAA All-North Region honoree helped Macalester to a pair of NCAA berths in 2015 and 2016, respectively, as well as an MIAC Championship in 2015 with an undefeated 13-0-5, 8-0-2 ledger.
One of his most notable performances came in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament when he assisted fellow teammate and Suffolk’s Interims Head Coach Austin Burrows’ game-winning goal in a 1-0 decision over St. Scholastica.
Following his 2017 graduation from Macalaster, where he earned a Bachelors of Arts in economics, Spurr took his talents to the Lane United Football Club, where he competed for two seasons. He was a catalyst to the team’s best two years in the club history, leading the squad in scoring in 2019.
Spurr’s extensive club experience also includes a summer stint training with the Minnesota United FC Reserves of the Premier League of America in 2016 and the Seattle Inter of the National Premier Soccer League in 2014.
