BOSTON – Suffolk men's hockey takes momentum from its first NEHC win into a home weekend as No. 5 Hobart and Skidmore are set to stop by Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink. The Statesmen visit Charlestown Friday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m., with the Thoroughbreds scheduled for a 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 matchup.

LAST TIME OUT
Seven different Rams scored with 10 student-athletes producing one point to anchor Suffolk men's hockey's well-balanced 8-4 victory over Castleton Saturday night at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink.

RAMS REVIEW
Suffolk picked up the pace last weekend and ticked its first mark in the NEHC win column behind an 8-4 triumph over Castleton Saturday to move to 5-9-1 on the year and 1-6-1 versus conference competition.  

Brian Brooks and Devin Lowe are top on the team in points with nine each. The former has a split stat line with four goals and five assists, while the latter has given out a team-best seven assists and scored twice. Jack KellyAlex Kolowrat and Nick Lachaine have all found the back of the net four times and set-up three scores.  

Cal Wilcox has become Suffolk's go-to goalie. In 10 appearances, nine starts, the freshman has assembled a 4.50 GAA and an .883 save percentage with three victories to his credit. 

STATESMEN SAYINGS
Hobart is on a five-game unbeaten streak capped off by a 6-2 win over UMass Boston Saturday to head to Beantown 10-3-2 on the year and 4-3-1 in league play.  

Four different skaters have hit the 10-point plateau anchored by 13-point performances from Alec Robitaille (7g, 6a) and Lawson MacDougall (5g, 8a). Aaron Maguyon (5g, 5a) and Zach Sternback (4g, 6a) round out the top scoring threats for the Statesmen. 

Joe Halstrom has played all, but one game in between the pipes for Hobart. He holds a 2.05 GAA and .919 save percentage with one shutout and nine wins.  

WE MEET AGAIN
Suffolk men's hockey skated with nationally ranked Hobart for the majority of the outing, but the then-No. 6 Statesmen's third-period scoring frenzy proved to be the different in a 7-4 New England Hockey Conference decision Nov. 9, 2019. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Hobart gained a 2-1-0 edge in the series with Suffolk, which began in 2018-19. 
  • The Rams look to take down the Statesmen for the first time since opening the series with a 5-2 win Dec. 7, 2018 

EYES ON THE GAME
 

THOROUGBREDS THOUGHTS
Skidmore fell at UMass Boston (5-1) and Babson (4-1) last week to head to New England 7-4-4 and 3-3-2 in league play. Prior to Suffolk's showdown Saturday, the Thoroughbreds with tangle with Johnson & Wales Friday, Jan. 17.  

Austin Rook has proved to be the biggest threat offensively for Skidmore with three goals and eight helpers for 11 points. Matt Muzyka and David Poirer share second on the squad in points with 10 each. Muzyka has a team-high six scores and four helpers, while Poirer's stat line is divided evenly in half with five strikes and five set-ups. 

In net, Brandon Kasel has played the bulk of time. He holds a .934 save percentage and 2.04 GAA. 

WE MEET AGAIN
Suffolk men's hockey slipped to Skidmore, 5-0, in its New England Hockey Conference opener November 8, 2019 at Saratoga City Rink.  

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk has yet to find the win column against Skidmore all-time, trailing the series, 0-4-0.

ROOKIE RECOGNITION
Suffolk men's hockey's Henry Bishop garnered NEHC Rookie of the Week honors after handing out four assists in a 1-1 week for the Rams, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
