BOSTON – Tommy Bishop of the Suffolk men's hockey team will go down in history as the first-ever Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Week as the sophomore grabs the initial award of the inaugural season after a career opening night the conference office announced Monday afternoon. 

Suffolk found itself in a 4-3 hole in the opening of the third period in its season opener at Assumption Saturday night, but thanks to back-to-back goals by Bishop over a53 second span, the Rams took down the Greyhounds, 5-4, to win their sixth straight season debut.  The two-goal effort by the sophomore marks a career-high, while he also notched a career-best in points with four thanks to handouts on Suffolk's second and third tallies. The two assists also match a career-high for the forward, which was originally set in a 4-2 win over Western New England Jan. 30, 2016. 

Bishop contributed two goals to the Rams' five, the most for the blue and gold on opening night since Suffolk netted six in a 6-3 win versus Stonehill Nov. 6, 2007.

Although the weekly award is the first for Bishop in the CCC era, it marks the second time he was recognized for his weekly performance by a conference. Last season, he took home ECAC Northeast Player of the Week accolades Dec. 7. 

Bishop the Rams return to action Thursday, Nov. 3 as they lift the curtain on their home and CCC campaign versus Becker. Puck drop at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink is scheduled for 7 p.m.
