Hockey Skates to 4-4 Tie With Curry

The Suffolk University Hockey team skated to a 4-4 tie with the Curry College Colonels on Thursday evening in ECAC Northeast action.

Junior Charlie McGinnis (Hanover, Mass.) and freshman Mike Pantano (Bridgewater, Mass.) each scored a goal and had an assist as the Rams move to a 3-4-2 overall record and 1-2-1 record in ECAC Northeast Conference action.

Sophomore Jordan Reed (Ajax, Onta.) scored the game-tying goal halfway through the third period for the Colonels who moved to a 3-3-1 overall record, and 2-1-1 ECAC Northeast mark.

Pantano opened the scoring as he netted the games first goal, and lone score of the first period as he knocked home his first career collegiate goal at the 11:00 minute mark as he took feeds from McGinnis and freshman Zack Capozza (Spotsyvania, Va.).

Sophomore Tim Sprague (Plymouth, Mass.) would open the second period with his team leading sixth goal of the season thirteen seconds out of the break as he was led up ice by sophomore Andrew Ball (Brick, N.J.) for a 2-0 Rams' lead.

Curry would even the game as they scored a pair of goals to follow. Reed scored his first of two goals on the night, five minutes into the period on a power-play before senior Connor Hendry (Calgary, Alta.) evened the game at 2-2.

Suffolk would answer scoring the next two goals in the period. Freshman Mike Cherpak (Enfield, Conn.) scored his fifth goal of the season with Capozza picking up his second assist of the season. McGinnis then put the Rams up by a pair as he scored his third goal of the year with feeds from Ball and Pantano.

Freshman Brandon Smolarek (Chesterfield, Mo.) pushed aside 49 shots in the game for the Rams in goal, including five in overtime.

Curry outshot Suffolk 53-31 in the game.

Reed finished the game with two goals and two assists for Curry.

Suffolk will be back in action on Saturday as they host Nichols College in an ECAC Northeast matchup at Steriti Rink in the North End. The puck drops at 4:25pm.
