William Cunningham joined Ed McMellen’s staff in his first season as the Assistant Men’s Golf Coach in 2017. He will begin his fourth-year with the Rams' program in 2021-22. 

With Cunningham on staff, Suffolk has garnered multiple successes. Under his leadership Owen Boggini garnered All-GNAC status in 2018, before becoming the first-known individual to capture All-NEIGA honors in the Rams' record book a year later. A year later, Suffolk's first season in the CCC, Cunningham saw Pablo Bedoya Montero earn All-CCC Second-Team honors after helping the Rams compete on the conference's championship course for the first time in program history. 

Cunningham brings his extensive PGA professional to the University level. His experience includes stints as the Head Golf Professional at the Wedgewood Pines Country Club in Stow, Massachusetts, and Sterling National Country Club in Sterling, Massachusetts. He also served as the First Assistant Golf Professional at various other country clubs including Oakley Country Club where Suffolk practices.

Cunningham has been responsible for instructing multiple private lessons, while also conducting men and women golf clinics throughout the years.  

Individually, Cunningham holds the unofficial course record at the Oakley Country Club, carding a 60.

Cunningham’s team coaching days began as the Head Coach of the Walpole High School Boys Golf Team for the 2014-15 season. The Melrose, Massachusetts, resident also coached the Walpole Country Club PGA Junior League Team.
