Men’s Golf Open’s 2019 Fall Slate at Duke Nelson Invitational


BOSTON – The Suffolk men's golf team will tee off its 2019 fall season Saturday, Sept. 14 as the Rams take the green at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course in Middlebury, Vermont at the Duke Nelson Invitational. Tee time is set for 12:00 p.m.

RAPID REWIND
Suffolk had one of its most successful seasons in program history in 2018-19.

The Rams posted their best showing at the GNAC Championships since joining the league in 2007 with a fourth-place performance at Blackstone Country Club.

The following weekend, the Rams finished 18th in the field of 23 teams at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships at the Captains Golf Course.

RAMS RINGLEADERS
Suffolk men's golf head coach Ed McMellen announced that Elias Sachs will take on sole leadership responsibility's in 2019.

CLASS CATEGORIES
The 2019 group holds experience with seven returners stepping back into the tee box. Overall, six upperclassmen lead the team, split between five seniors and one junior. Meanwhile, one sophomore, Brian Dunleavy, and one true freshman, Shawn Nosky, make up the rest of Suffolk's quad.  

GEOGRAPHY 101
Members of the men's golf team come from three different states. Five Rams are Massachusetts natives, while the remaining three call New York, New Hampshire, and Connecticut home.

THE COURSE
The Ralph Myhre Golf Couse is an 18-hole public course owned and operated by Middlebury College.

THE COMPETITION
Twenty-one teams will join Suffolk at the Myhre Golf Course this weekend. In addition to the Rams and the hosts Middlebury, GNAC member Johnson & Wales is also set to compete. 

SEASON OPENERS
For the first time in its history, the Suffolk men's golf team will open their season at the two-day Duke Nelson Invitational.

The Rams will tee-off at a two-day event in its first outing of the year for the first time in a decade with its last two-day season-opener coming in 2009 with the ECAC Championships serving as the Rams' first outing of the season.

AT THE HELM
Ed McMellen
enters his 17th season as the Suffolk men's golf head coach. During his tenure, McMellen has garnered four All-GNAC honorees – Owen Boggini (2018), Tim Benedetto (2014), Luke Ferrari (2013), and Joe Surace (2012) – along with a handful of top showings on the conference championship course.

WHAT'S NEXT?
Suffolk will be back on the green on September 29-30 as it faces off in the Blazers Invitational at the Hickory Ridge Country Club in Amherst, Massachusetts.
