Men’s Golf Takes Eighth at Blazers Invitational

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – In its first two-day competition of 2017, the Suffolk men's golf team finished eighth overall at the Blazer Fall Invitational, hosted at The Orchards Golf Club over the holiday weekend.   

The Rams carded a team score of 319 over the final 18 holes, paired with 312 in the first round, to finish with a combined 631 for eighth-place in the 16 team event hosted by Elms College. Ethan Abitz, Elias Sachs, Owen Boggini, Andrew Harper and Demetrois Stamoulis took the green for Suffolk, with Abitz leading the pack. 

Abitz was off to a fast start on the par-72, putting up a +2 on day one. In the second round, the sophomore fired an 80, for a total of 154, which put him in a tie for 15th overall in the event. 

Sachs and Boggini finished inside the Top 30. Sachs put up scores of 79 and 79, respectively, for a 157 total, good for a 25th-place tie. Boggini, meanwhile, finished one stroke behind his team with his best 18 holes coming on the first day of competition when he posted a 76. The sophomore carded an 82 on day two for a 158 total, putting him in a tie for 28th. 

Harper bounced back after a first round 85 as the sophomore put up a 79 on the second day to tie 46th overall. 

Stamoulis rounded out the Rams on the course. The sophomore's scores of 83 and 84 were good for 58th overall. 

Suffolk returns to action this weekend as it vies for GNAC glory at the 2017 conference championships. The quest for the league title will be played at Valley Country Club in Warwick, Rhode Island, with Johnson & Wales serving as hosts.
