Men’s Basketball Grabs Seventh Seed in GNAC Tournament

WINTHROP, Mass. – The Suffolk men's basketball team heads to the GNAC Tournament for the eighth straight season as the Rams locked up the seventh seed, the conference office announced.

Jeff Juron's Rams put together a 14-11 overall record and 6-5 league ledger to finish in a four-way tie for fourth-place. After tie breakers and head-to-head results, Suffolk slid into seventh in the eight-team tournament field.

The trip to the conference postseason is the 16th overall for Suffolk, who joined the GNAC in 2000. Suffolk will compete as the seventh seed for the seventh time, third under Juron's guidance, and first since 2016-17.

The quarterfinals sends Suffolk to second seed Albertus Magnus. The Falcons, sealed the second spot after going 9-2 in conference contests and 20-4 overall.

Suffolk and Albertus Magnus met for the first time Feb. 1 when the blue-and-gold stunned then-No. 19 81-68, the Rams first victory over the Falcons in seven seasons.

In the postseason, Suffolk and Albertus have met just once, the 2015 quarterfinals. The top-seeded Falcons downed the eighth-seeded Rams, 108-82 to eliminate the blue-and-gold from the playoffs. The foes will play in the postseason as the second and seventh seed for the first time with the postseason play also the first in the Juron era.

Over its 16 conference tournament appearances, Suffolk has advanced to the semifinals four times, with the last coming in 2017-18, and competed in the championship contest once, when it hoisted the trophy in 2002.

Suffolk's quest for GNAC glory tips off Tuesday, Feb. 25 at The Nest in New Haven, Connecticut against Albertus Magnus. The four winners from Tuesday night's quarterfinals will advance to the semis, which are set at the highest remaining seeds Thursday, Feb. 27 with the champion being crowned Saturday, Feb. 29.
