LAST TIME OUT

The Suffolk men's basketball team did not let a quick turnover halt them as the Rams rolled past Johnson State, 83-65, in the consolation contest of Amherst's 15th annual Ken Wright '52 Invitaitonal.

Suffolk, who took the court in LeFrak Gymnasium just 14 hours prior to Saturday's tip-off, used its veteran leadership to capture its first win of the 2015-16 campaign and first under the guidance of Jeff Juron. Caleb Unni put in a career-high 23 points off a 70 percent (7-10) performance from 3-point range. Senior Adam Chick was right behind Unni with a well-balanced game of 19 points, connecting on 8-of-10 from the field, to go with 10 rebounds, five assists and one steal. Steven DiPrizio was also efficient from the floor, going 6-of-8, including a perfect 2-of-2 from beyond-the-arc for his own career nigh of 14 points. The freshman was one carom shy of a double-double with nine and added four assists and one block. Senior Matt Duquett chipped in 10 points, five rebounds, five helpers and swatted two shots.

RUN DOWN ON THE RAMS

  • After dropping back-to-back games; first to UMass Boston (72-61) then Worcester State (77-64), the Rams rallied its way into the win column in an 83-65 decision over Johnson State.
  • Suffolk is now 1-2 overall this season.
  • The Rams have had a different player in blue-and-gold lead the way offensively in each of their contests this season. Matt Duquette paces the pack with the most consistency as the senior averages 15.3 ppt, followed closely behind by sophomore Quinn McCartney, who throws down 14.0 ppg. Senior Jake Meister is also providing double figures with 12.0 ppg.
  • Defensively, Suffolk receives 8.3 rpg from senior guard Adam Chick, with rookie Steven DiPrizio and Matt Duquette adding 6.3 rpg and 6.0 rpg, respectively.

SOMETHING 'BOUT THE SEAHAWKS

  • Salve Regina enters Tuesday's game at 2-2. The Seahawks opened the season with an 80-70 thrilling victory over The College of New Jersey before falling at Wheaton (87-80) and Coast Guard (98-89). In its last outing, Salve posted a convincing 77-52 win in its home opener over Lesley.
  • Four Seahawks average double figures in points with Nicholas Bates (18.5 ppg) and Barrett Hanlon (18.3 ppg) leading the way. Bryce Boggs contributes 13.3 ppt while Rodney Morton (12.3 ppg) and David Hanson (11.3) also chip in double digits.
  • Bates, Salve Regina's leading scorer, is also a force on the glass for the Seahawks as the junior forward pulls down 11.0 rpg. He is the lone Salve Regina player to grab double figure boards with the next behind pulling down 5.8 rpg in Hanlon.  Hanlon, meanwhile, has noted 2.8 spg and dishes out 5.5 apg.
