Nwadike Scores a Career High 39 Points In Men's Basketball Victory

The Suffolk University Men's Basketball team collected their fourth consecutive victory with an 84-82 win over Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Thursday evening.

Senior Sam Nwadike (Houston, Tx.) continued his strong start as he scored a career-high 39 points in the win for Suffolk who move to 2-0 in conference play and a 5-3 mark on the season.

Both teams played a back and forth contest as neither could build more than a five point margin from the other in the first 36 minutes of the contest.

With 4:16 remaining in regulation, freshman Quinn McCartney (LaCrosse, Wis.) would hit one of two free-throws to even the contest at 71-71. From there Suffolk would go on an 8-1 run with Nwadike connecting on two of his 14 free-throws made in the game along with a layup to make it a 79-72 contest with two minutes left.

A three point play by sophomore Trevon Farley (Lawrence, Mass.) and a layup by Quantez Franklin (South Yarmouth, Mass.) would make it a one possession game before McCartney gave Suffolk some breathing room knocking down a free throw with fifty-eight ticks left on the clock with the score 80-77.

Nwadike would give Suffolk some more cushion when he put in his 12th field goal of the game and followed it knocking down another free-throw as he was fouled on the play to put Suffolk back up six.

With three seconds left Quantez would knock down his only three pointer in the game, but that would be the final offense of the contest as Suffolk would hold on to the victory.

Four players for Suffolk finished with double digit scoring totals. Alongside Nwadike, McCartney put in 13 points off the bench while junior Caleb Unni (Winchester, Mass.) scored 10 including a 2-for-4 performance from beyond the arc, while sophomore Matt Duquette (Swampscott, Mass.) also chipped in with 10.

Junior Patrick Brandense (Billerica, Mass.) finished with a team-high 18 points in the setback for the AMCATS as he was one of four players to amass double digits in points in the game for the host Anna Maria.  Junior Tyler Delorey (Worcester, Mass.) added 15 off the bench, while Franklin put in 13 and freshman Youssef Fodaile (Worcester, Mass.) added 10 points.

Suffolk held a 42-36 edge in rebounds in the game as Nwadike finished with a team-high eight. Suffolk managed to collect 24 second chance points in the victory compared to Anna Maria's 14.

Franklin finished the game with a double-double as he led all players with 12 boards in a losing effort.

Suffolk will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they round out the first half of their season when the host 16th ranked Albertus Magnus College in GNAC action at the Regan Gymnasium beginning at 3:00pm.
