Unni, Men's Basketball Extend Winning Streak to Three

The Suffolk University Men's Basketball team extended their winning streak to three games with an 82-65 victory over the Norwich University Cadets in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Thursday evening.

Freshman Caleb Unni (Winchester, Mass.) led all scorers with 17 points on 4-for-7 shooting from beyond the arc to pace the Rams who improve to a 4-3 mark and 2-0 record in league play.

Senior Colin Halpin (Melrose, Mass.) put the Rams up with a three-pointer with 3:23 remaining in the first half to give Suffolk a 31-28 lead and they would not look back from there.

Suffolk finished the first half going back to the locker room with a 38-34 lead and would come out in the second half with a quick 4-0 run with seniors Matt Pepdjonovic (Quincy, Mass.) and Chris Torres (Brockton, Mass.) connecting on back-to-back layups.

Torres would pace the Rams in the second half scoring 11 of his game's 16 points as the Rams were able to build their lead to as many as 19 points with a 72-53 lead with 7:21 remaining in the game.

Senior Josh Cabrera (Providence, R.I) led the Cadets with a 17-point effort on the evening shooting 6-for-12 from the field as Norwich finished with three players in double digits in scoring.

Junior Tom McDonald (Groton, Mass.) added 12 points while sophomore Evan Tullar (Chelsea, Vt.) contributed 10 points for the visitors.

Senior Matt Pepdjonovic (Quincy, Mass.) recorded another double-double for the Rams as he scored 14 points on the night and led all rebounders with 10 boards.

Torres finished the game with 16 points, while Halpin added 14.

Suffolk held a 42-34 edge on the glass in the game.

The game was the first conference game on the season for Norwich, who now fall to a 3-4 mark on the year.

Both teams will round out the first half of their season on Saturday afternoon. Norwich will host Albertus Magnus College in GNAC action at 1:00pm. Suffolk will host Tufts University in a non-league matchup beginning at 3:00pm at the Regan Gymnasium.
