rams rundown
Six every day starters are back in Suffolk’s lineup that hit just under .300 as a team to go 23-18-1 last season.
The Rams biggest bat of Tim Brigham, who had a breakout campaign, a year ago is back. He is coming off a .390/.428/.597 season with 60 hits, 45 RBI and 20 runs scored. Blase Comrier and Rich Gilbride will also be counted on at the plate. The infielders were consistent contributors last season as well. Cormier contributed 48 hits and 30 RBI on a .336/.447/.448 slash line, while Gilbride chipped in 42 hits, 36 runs scored, 24 RBI and 14 stolen bases.
We will look to build off Tim (Brigham)’s break out season in 2019, while Blasé (Comrier) is developing himself into not only one of the top hitters in the conference, but the New England region as well. Rich (Gilbride) has been strong up the middle for us defensively and we are counting on him this season to put everything together and be a complete all-around player.
Other returns back in the mix looking to contribute right away are outfielders Zack Aresty and Logan Heckman, infielders Ben Isaak, Joe Rufo and Nik San Antonio and catcher Steven Shamnoski.
MOUND MENTIONABLES
Three crucial arms were lost to graduation from last year’s rotation. Steven Rossi is back as a starting arm for Suffolk after a freshman campaign in which he compiled a 6-1 record in eight starts. Over 44.1 innings pitched, he fanned 30 hitters and assembled a 3.25 ERA.
Parker Browne brings back experience on the bump. The righty has helped any way necessary on the rubber over the last two seasons. A year ago, he commanded 28.2 innings over 13 appearances for a 3-1 record and a pair of saves. Browne built a staff-best 2.51 ERA with 25 Ks.
Steven had a strong freshman campaign winning six games for us and we will look to him to build off last season’s experience and improve. Parker was one of our more reliable arms last season working in a swing role between spot starter and go to bullpen guy. We will rely on him to be our workhorse this season in innings.
geography 101
Suffolk's geographical makeup spreads eight states. The bulk of the Rams are Bay State locals with a dozen Massachusetts natives, while the Empire State is represented by seven New Yorkers. A quartet has come down from New Hampshire with a pair traveling up from New Jersey. Maine, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island are represented by one student-athlete each.
class CATEGORIES
The Rams 29-player roster represents every class with the bulk make up of sophomores and juniors, which accounts for 21 student-athletes. There are 12 sophomores, nine juniors with four freshmen, three seniors and one graduate student.
POSITION POINTS
When broken down by position, Suffolk has a 13-member staff with eight RHP, a pair of southpaws and three positional pitchers. Defensively, there are six infielders and outfielders, respectively, and a foursome behind the plate.
RAMS RINGLEADERS
Less than a week away from first pitch of the 2020 campaign, Suffolk baseball head coach Anthony Del Prete has announced that the threesome of Tim Brigham, Parker Browne and Rich Gilbride with share leadership responsibilities as tri-captains.
We're excited to have Tim (Brigham), Rich (Gilbride) and Parker (Browne) elected as our team captains for the 2020 season. Each of these three bring separate qualities in terms of leadership that they carry with them each day both on and off the field. Overall, we feel like we have a very strong character group with this team as many as our players bring a strong set of intangible skills with them each day. Throughout the year this team has shown a strong sense of chemistry and a solid work ethic, which has been led by our three captains.
rams rookies
Head coach Anthony Del Prete has brought in seven student-athletes to compliment his experienced returners for the 2020 Suffolk baseball season.
The group is made up of four true freshmen – Marc Birbiglia, Corey Frassica, Luke Harder and Caleb Piwnicki. A pair of sophomore transfers Michael James Jr. and Gino Desimone and sophomore Jake Washock.
Gino (Desimone), a transfer from Framingham State, will give us some needed depth on the left side of the infield, while Marc (Birbiglia) and Luke (Harder) will give us plenty of athleticism in the outfield. All three left handed hitters should give us the ability for added depth off the bench if need be or allow us to diversity and add a mix to our lineup.
Corey (Frassica) from Bridgton Academy will give us much needed depth behind the plate. Caleb (Piwnicki) and Jake (Wahock), two right handed pitchers, should help solidify a deep pitching staff and give us two quality arms in our bullpen.
