Roger Williams Sweeps Doubleheader On Saturday

The Roger Williams University Baseball team swept a double header over Suffolk University to start their 2014 season. The Hawks took game one by a 12- margin, before closing out the night cap with a 4-2 victory.

Game One

Sophomore Jamie Timothy (Cohasset, Mass.) was 4-for-5 to help the Hawks cruise to a 12-1 game one victory.

Roger Williams scored seven times in the fourth inning thanks to some poor defensive play by Suffolk, who committed three consecutive errors in the inning to let the flood gates open.

Timothy opened the game in the first inning driving in senior Mike Pascarella (Milford, Conn.) with the game's first run. Pacarella led off the first with a double to left center as he scored a pair of runs in the contest.

Seniors Trevor Larsen (Northbridge, Mass.) and Mike Thomas (Plainville, Conn.) along with, junior Chris Travers (East Freetown, Mass.) each drove in a pair of runs as the Hawks' lineup put out 12 hits and took advantage of seven walks for the game one victory.

Senior Sean Boyle (Arlington, Mass.) allowed four innings over six innings of work to pick up the victory.

Freshman Luke Ronchi (Randolph, Mass.) knocked in Suffolk's lone run of the game with a pinch-hit single in the sixth inning.

For the second day in a row Suffolk squandered a huge opportunity as they loaded the bases with no outs in the third innings but stranded the trio without scoring a run.

Game Two

Junior Reid Nelson's (Wallingford, Conn.) two run double in the first help build a three run Hawks lead and that would be all they needed as four pitchers combined to allow one earned run over seven innings of work for the game two victory.

Junior Joe Hock (Braintree, Mass.) was 3-for-3, including an RBI single in the first, which proved to be the game-winning run/

Senior Devan Jones (Roslindale, Mass.) had an RBI single for Suffolk in the third inning, while senior Mac Jacobson (Norfolk, Mass.) knocked in a run with a groundout in the fourth.

Ronchi was the lone Suffolk player to record multiple hits in the contest as he was 2-for-4 in the nightcap to finish the day 3-for-5.

Senior Tyler Pogmore (Lebanon, Conn.) pitched a scoreless seventh inning for his first save of the season as Suffolk the tying run on first base to close it out.
