Women’s Cross Country Loses Battle for Boston Commons

BOSTON – Suffolk women's cross country saw its undefeated streak against Emerson come to an end as the Rams fell in the annual Battle for Boston Commons Saturday at Franklin Park. 

The Lions took the first four spots to race past Suffolk, 18-37, to claim their first-ever bragging rights in the head-to-head race that has taken place since 2018. 

Janelle Bryant claimed fifth in the11-runner race as the freshman put together a 28:50 in her first-ever 6k.  

Sophomore April Banuelos was the second Ram through the finisher's chute in 29:05, good for sixth with junior Christina Baggitt 29 seconds behind her to secure seventh. 

Freshman Maria Gallant finished ninth with a 30:07 and senior Daisey Jones crossed the tape in 31:23 to place 10th. Both Gallant and Jones ran their first 6k of their collegiate careers. 

Suffolk will be back in action at the 2023 CCC Championships Saturday, Oct. 28 at Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts.
