Women’s Cross Country Finishes Fifth at Short Course Classic

BOSTON – Suffolk women's cross began its 2023 season with a fifth-place showing at its own Short Course Classic Friday at Franklin Park.

The Rams, who opened the season ranked eighth in the East in the USTFCCCA Preseason Poll, combined for 166 points to round out the top five. Suffolk was the second-best Division III team as it finished behind WPI, who locked up third.

UConn and Northeastern claimed first and second with 24 and 39 points, respectively. Stonehill placed between the Engineers and the Rams.

Amy Pattelena broke the tape in 11:27.4 on the 3-kilometer course. The sophomore, who is the first Ram to run a sub-12.0 at the event, claimed 11th in the 147-runner field and was the first Division III student-athlete to come through the finisher's chute.

Sydney Fogg (12:01.0), Sarah Roberts (12:24.8), Emily Concepcion (12:52.5), and Shannon Groom (12:57.5) rounded out Suffolk's top-5.
