Volleyball Coasts by Dean, 3-0

BOSTON – Suffolk volleyball cruised past Dean in straight sets Monday night at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court. The Rams took down the Bulldogs via set scores 25-13, 25-14 and 25-16.

SET ONE RECAP (25-13, SUFFOLK)

  • Down 5-2, kills from Kenzley BellJasmine James and Jess Weber leveled the playing field at 5-all. 
  • See-saw came next the score would flip twice and tie once. 
  • That back-and-forth action put Suffolk in a one-point hole, 7-6. 
  • From there, the Rams rattled off 10 unanswered points to build a double-digit distance, 18-8. 
  • Things evened back off the rest of the way, thankfully Suffolk's cushion paid off.  

SET TWO RECAP (25-14, SUFFOLK

  • Suffolk had to play catch-up again as Dean coupled the first two points of the stanza. 
  • Five straight points from the Rams flipped the script in the host favor, 5-2.
  • The blue-and-gold went on another 5-2 run to double its advantage, 10-4, which forced the Bulldogs into a timeout early. 
  • The pattern of Suffolk scoring five and Dean answering with two continued as the Rams found themselves with a 15-6.
  •  The 5-2 Suffolk configuration fade, but it would be the Rams that cruised to the second set victory thanks to their early edge.

SET THREE RECAP (25-16, SUFFOLK)

  • Suffolk leaped out to a 7-1 lead to get the set going. That stretch featured three aces in a row from Tatum Kalt
  • Momentum stayed on the Rams side as the host built an 11-4 edge and Dean took a timeout.
  • Slowly Suffolk built a 10-point gap that officially went into the scoresheet, 16-6, after Jayla Martinez served back-to-back aces. 
  • The Bulldogs made things interesting with a 5-1 run that sliced Suffolk's advantage down to six, 17-11. 
  • Out of a Rams timeout Weber knocked down a pair of kills and James supplied one of her own to restore a comfortable cushion, 20-12. 
  •  The teams went point-for-point down the stretch and once again the Rams lead helped in the end.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Weber led the charge with a match-best 13 kills behind a connection rate of .257 to go along with three digs and a pair of blocks. 
  • Grace Cervenka and James had eight kills apiece. The former pitched in three blocks as well. 
  • Martinez held down Suffolk's setter role with 28 assists. She added five digs, three aces and two kills to the winning effort as well. 
  • Bell contributed 18 digs, two assists and one kill. 
  • Kalt chipped in 10 digs and six aces.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk and Dean met for the first time.
