BOSTON – Suffolk volleyball looks to keep its winning ways going as it heads to Gorham, Maine, Saturday, Sept. 17 for a tri-match at Southern Maine with Castleton. The Rams will battle the Spartans at 2 p.m., before taking on the host Huskies at 4 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Down 2-0, Suffolk volleyball stormed back, tied things up at 2-all and took the fifth and deciding set easily to defeat Fisher, 3-2, Wednesday night at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court. The comeback win came via set scores 17-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-18 and 15-3.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk has won its last four matches to move to 6-2 on the year.  

The Rams 10.88 kills per set offense sees three-plus kills per set from both Jess Weber (3.33) and McKenna Keowen (3.18). The pair lead the attack that is set up by Harmony Johnson (6.90 aps) and Jayla Martinez (4.26 aps). Morgan Kelsey has been a force from the service line with 1.35 aces per set. 

Defensively, Kenzley Bell paces the pack with 4.46 dps. Tatum Kalt and Keowen add 2.43 dps and 2.12 dps, respectively. The twosome of Grace Cervenka (0.60 bps) and Alina Nowakowski (0.50) anchor the effort at the net. 

SPARTANS SAYINGS
Castleton has fallen in three in a row to dip to 2-4 on the year. Five of the Spartans six matches were decided in straight sets.  

Hailey Martinovich is in the offensive and defensive conversation with a team-best 2.55 kps and 2.60 dps, good for second on the squad. Vanessa LeBrun is a consistent contributor to the attack as well with 2.25 kps to her credit. Maddie Delsignore (5.85 aps) has taken on the bulk of the setter's role. She is also a threat at the service line with 0.70 aces per set. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk is unbeaten against Castleton all-time, 2-0.
  • The Rams have swept the Spartans in both meetings. 
  • The teams will meet for the first time since Sept. 21, 2019. 
  • Suffolk is 1-0 against Castleton with Scott Blanchard on the bench. 
  • The blue-and-gold and Spartans will clash on neutral hardwood for the second time, first since the inaugural meeting, Sept. 22, 2012.

HAVE TO KNOW 'BOUT THE HUSKIES
Southern Maine is 1-6 on the year and is on a five-match skid with its most recent setback coming to Husson in five sets.  

Reese Bourgeois and Brianna Delloiacono provided a one-two punch offensively. The former leads the way with 2.13 kps with the latter supplying 2.09 kps. Savannah Hunter is the Huskies usual setter with 5.96 aps. 

Sierra Castonguay's 3.09 dps effort leads the defense that receives 2.60 dps from Ellie Perry and 2.50 dps from Hunter. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk and Southern Maine will meet for the first time since 2018 and fourth time overall. 
  • The Rams are 0-3 all-time against the Huskies. 
  • Two matches in the series were decided in straight sets, while one went four sets.
