Gordon Runs Past Volleyball in Straight Sets

BOSTON – Suffolk volleyball opened it home tri-match with a straight set setback to Gordon Saturday morning at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court. The decision came by set scores 25-21, 25-19 and 25-22.

SET ONE RECAP (25-21, GORDON)

  • Gordon poured in the first five points, but Suffolk climbed back to level the playing field at 8-all. 
  • The scored evened three more times from there and the lead flipped twice with the Fighting Scots landing in front, 13-12. 
  • The visitors rebuilt a four-point cushion, 19-14, which forced the Rams into a timeout. 
  • Out of the huddle, the Fighting Scots matched their largest lead of the set of five points, 22-17. 
  • Suffolk tried to make a comeback and managed to pull within three, 22-19. 
  • Gordon's composure showed as it outscored the host 4-1 the rest of the way to take the frame.  

SET TWO RECAP (25-19, GORDON)

  • From the 3-all score, Gordon grew a 12-7 advantage. 
  • Suffolk used a timeout to calm down, instead the Fighting Scots used the huddle to help their lead to a 17-8 distance. 
  • The Rams managed to pull back within five, but it was too late, 24-19, and Gordon scored the next point to point the set away. 

SET THREE RECAP (25-22, GORDON)

  • Things stayed close until the Fighting Scots slid ahead, 11-8. 
  • Gordon outscored the Rams 7-2 out of a Suffolk timeout to make things lopsided, 18-10.
  • A rally came from the blue-and-gold as it scored six straight to cut the deficit down to two, 21-19. 
  • The teams traded points the rest of the way and the Fighting Scots early edge proved to be the distance.
