BOSTON – In the midst of a five-match road trip, Suffolk volleyball makes the short trek across the Boston Commons for a Saturday, Oct. 16 tri-match at Emerson. The Rams will first take on the host Lions at 10 a.m., before battling Colby at 12 p.m.

SUFFOLK ATHLETICS 2021-22 FAN POLICY
Suffolk University Athletics, following guidance from the University's health and safety protocols, Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), Centers for Disease Control and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, plans to allow fans to attend home athletic contests during the 2021-22 academic and athletic year.

Fans, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, can attend games. They must be masked the entire time they are on campus, pursuant to institutional policy, and complete a health screening form at the security desk of each building upon arrival. This policy applies to home contests played on campus at the Ridgeway Building's Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court, as well as the Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink and the Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

For outdoor outings, specifically at East Boston Memorial Park, fans are asked to respect COVID safety protocols. At this time, masks will not be mandated for fans no matter vaccinated status at outdoor venues.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk women's volleyball entered the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory with a straight set decision over Western New England Wednesday night at the Alumni Healthful Living Center. The triumph came via set scores 25-22, 25-21 and 25-14.

RAMS RUNDOWN
After its first CCC win, Suffolk moved to 7-11 on the year and 1-4 in league matches.  

The Rams have relied on freshman McKenna Keowen on both sides of the net. The freshman outside hitter provides a team-best 3.16 kps on a .230 hitting clip to go along with 2.42 dps. Keowen is helped offensively by Jasmine James (1.90 kps) and Julia Leavey (1.61 kps), with Harmony Johnson (4.84 aps) and Jayla Martinez (3.89 aps) setting up the attack. 

Kenzley Bell pushes the blue-and-gold defense with 3.54 dps. Morgan Kelsey pitches in 2.77 dps and Alina Nowakowski provides 0.73 bps. 

LIONS LOOK
Emerson sits 10-6 on the year and is coming off a straight set victory over Simmons.  

A trio of Lions log over 2.00 kps in Parker Cummings (2.65), Amelia Combs (2.52) and Brooke Maynez (2.16) to be the main ingredient to the team's 11.70 kps attack.  Caroline Bond, who is a threat at the service line with 0.70 aces per set, and Rachel Scott have split time at setter for Emerson with 9.35 aps and 6.08 aps, respectively. 

Caroline Davis' 4.30 dps paces the defense, which receives 3.13 dps from Bond and 1.00 bps by Isabella Cubba. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Since 2004, Suffolk is 2-13 all-time versus Emerson. 
  • Emerson has won a dozen straight matches over Suffolk, including 11 consecutive in straight sets. 
  • One of Suffolk's victories over the Lions came in four sets, while the other was a sweep. 
  • The Rams and Lions have needed four sets to determine a winner just once, which Suffolk won. 
  • Suffolk and Emerson went the distance once, in 2006. The Rams fell in that thriller. 
  • Every match except two in the all-time series have finished in straight sets. Suffolk is 1-12 in three-set matches against the Lions. 
  • Suffolk looks for its first win over Emerson since a 3-0 decision Oct. 29, 2005. 
  • The blue-and-gold is 0-2 versus the Lions in the Scott Blanchard era.

EYES ON THE MATCH

MULES MENTIONABLES
Colby (8-6) will start its weekend at Trinity Friday, Oct. 15 before battling in Boston.  

Hannah Wyllie's 3.13 kps on a .310 attack percentage powers the Mules offense that receives 2.55 kps from Jenny Salveck and 0.60 aces per set by Julia Hutchings. Morgan Selby serves as Colby's setter with 4.60 aps.  

Hutchings and Salveck are main ingredients defensively as well. The former leads the way with 3.2 dps with the latter's 2.89 dps good for second on the squad. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk picked up its first-ever win over Colby in a five-set thriller, Sept. 7, 2019. 
  • The Rams are 1-3 all-time versus the Mules in a series, which dates back to 2004. 
  • Two matches (2004, 2018) have been decided in sweeps, both Colby won. 
  • One match went to four sets with the Mules coming out victorious. 
  • Suffolk owns the only five-set decision in the series.
  • The blue-and-gold is 1-1 against Colby under Scott Blanchard's guidance.
