SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Suffolk volleyball bounced back from a first frame put back to gain a 3-1 victory over Union Saturday morning at the Viniar Athletic Center. The Rams' first victory of the Union Invitational came by set scores 23-25, 25-20, 25-23 and 25-15.
THE BASICS

SET ONE RECAP (25-23, UNION)
- Suffolk took a 5-1 lead that turned into a 15-10 cushion at the midway point.
- The Dutchwomen scored seven straight to lock the set at 17-all.
- The Rams remained in front as the teams traded points, but not for long.
- Union put together a 4-0 stretch to take the lead it would not give up.
SET TWO RECAP (25-20, SUFFOLK)
- Suffolk came out strong to take a 7-2 advantage.
- The Dutchwomen responded with a 7-2 stretch of their own to even the score at 9-all.
- Things tied three more times with the last coming at 15-15.
- Suffolk scored two points to every Union one to gain control down the stretch to take the set and even the match.
SET THREE RECAP (25-23, SUFFOLK)
- The match made up of runs carried into the third stanza.
- After back-and-forth action, Suffolk took a 12-6 advantage that forced Union into a timeout.
- The Rams remained ahead out of the huddle and pushed their cushion to 17-9.
- The Dutchwomen fired back though and outscored Suffolk, 10-2, to equalize matters at 19.
- Suffolk gained composure in a timeout to put the set away.
SET FOUR RECAP (25-15, SUFFOLK)
- A see-saw affair was present in the opening of the fourth.
- Up 12-9, Suffolk took over from there as it limited Union to just six more points the rest of the way, while the Rams scored almost double that.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- McKenna Keowen poured in a 19-kill, 16-dig double-double effort to pace both sides of the ball.
- Jasmine James and Alina Nowakowski each provided 10 kills.
- Morgan Kelsey anchored the defense with 25 digs to go along with seven aces on the offensive end.
- Jayla Martinez finished with 46 assists, six digs and three aces.
NOTEWORTHY
- Suffolk and Union battled for the first time.
- Keowen registered her first collegiate double-double. She is the first place to notch a double-double since Kayla Barbera did so in a 3-1 win over Regis Oct. 23, 2019.
- James, Keowen and Nowakowski all had double-digit kills for the first time in their collegiate careers.
- Martinez career-high 46 assists are the most handouts by a Ram since Harmony Johnson notched 49 in a 3-1 victory against Regis, Oct. 23, 2019.
- Kelsey logged a personal-best 25 digs.
