BOSTON – A mid-week GNAC match-up is on the schedule for Suffolk volleyball Wednesday, Oct. 17 as the Rams make the short trip across town to visit Simmons at 7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Suffolk volleyball team saw its three-match win streak come to an end Monday as the Rams fell in three sets to Gordon at the Bennett Center. The setback came via set scores 25-16, 25-21 and 25-18.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk is back in league play after moving to 7-13 on the season. When it comes to conference contests, the Rams are 4-3, winning three straight league matches. 

Kayla Barbera and Hannah Fabiano have been consistent offensive forces for the Rams this season with each sophomore producing 2.21 kps for the blue-and-gold's 9.43 kps attack. Talia Lombardo has held down the setter's responsibilities in her senior season with 7.72 aps with the captain also being the main threat at the service line with 0.74 aces per set.

On the defensive side of the ball, Dakhensey Marcellus' 4.44 dps leads the way. The sophomore gets help from Barber (2.41 dps) and Emma Feeney (2.20 dps).

SHARKS SAYINGS
Simmons has coupled back-to-back sweeps together to improve to 10-11 on the season and 6-3 in league action, good for fifth in the conference standings, one spot ahead of Suffolk. 

Faith Gray Williams' 2.22 kps leads the way offensively with Amanda Fortune (2.00 kps) and Reilly Coombs (1.95 kps) pitching into the effort. The Sharks' 10.62 kps is set up by both Kenna McCarthy (4.39 aps) and Gray-Williams (3.70 aps).

Defensively, Julia Fusco paces the pack with 3.70 dps with Coombs (2.47 dps) and Fortune (0.59 bps) contributing to the effort.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Since picking up four straight wins to start the series (dating back to 2003), Suffolk has only won a pair of outings over the last 10 years to trail Simmons 5-11 all-time.
  • The Sharks have won the last eight meetings with the Rams including a straight set decision in the GNAC Quarterfinals a year ago.
  • In three set matches Suffolk is 2-6 with the Rams owning a 3-6 record when taking Simmons to four sets.
  • The Suffolk, Simmons series has never seen a match go to five sets according to the Rams' record book, which dates back to 2003.

Suffolk remains on the road Saturday, Oct. 20 when it treks to Northfield, Vermont for a tri-match at Norwich featuring Regis. The Rams take on the Pride at 1 p.m., before facing the Cadets at 3 p.m.
