Volleyball Rewrites Record Books in Sweep of Pine Manor

BOSTON – Suffolk volleyball rewrote the record books Tuesday night as the Rams cruised past Pine Manor in straight sets in their home opener inside Regan Gymnasium. Suffolk secured its first victory of the season with set scores of 25-7, 25-9 and 25-9.

SET ONE RECAP (25-7, SUFFOLK)

  • Suffolk's early 3-1 edge turned into a 12-3 margin thanks to six straight points with Bridget Allison at the service line. Allison served two aces in the stretch, including the 100th of her career.
  • Three straight aces from Kayla Barbera lengthen the Rams lead to 16-4.
  •  The blue-and-gold went up 22-6 on a Talia Lombardo ace and the Gators used a timeout to talk things over.
  • Out of the break Lombardo served an ace again, her second of the set, and Hannah Fabiano followed suit to seal the frame, 25-7.  

SET TWO RECAP (25-9, SUFFOLK)

  • The score flip flopped under Barbera took over the service line for Suffolk. The sophomore orchestrated a 
  •  commanded a 10-0 run for the Rams to give the hosts a hefty 18-7 advantage. Over the spurt, Barbera collected five aces. 
  • From there, Suffolk outscored Pine Manor 7-2 to secure the stanza, 25-9.

 SET THREE RECAP (25-9, SUFFOLK)

  • Back-to-back aces from Ashley Fahey put the Rams up 8-2 to force a Gators' timeout. 
  • Every player on the Rams' roster had a chance to contribute the rest and secure the set, 25-9. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Barbera anchored Suffolk with a four-kill, nine-ace effort. 
  • Sarah Mullahy chipped in four kills and one ace. 
  • Lombardo dished out nine assists and served three aces. 
  • Meg Kerek recorded five assists, two aces, one kill, one dig and one block. 
  • Allison pitched in three kills and a pair of aces. 
  • Fahey served five aces. 
  • As a team, Suffolk tallied 26 aces and 18 kills.  
  • The Rams limited the Gators to just two kills through the three-set match.

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk won its ninth straight match against Pine Manor. 
  • The Rams took a 12-2 lead in the all-time series versus the Gators dating back to 2003.
  • Suffolk's 26 aces are the most in the Rams' record books, which date back to 2011.  
  • Barbera and Fahey each notched a career-high aces with eight and five, respectively.
