Volleyball Falls On the Road to UMass Dartmouth, 3-1

 

Junior Carina Filosa (Milford, Mass.) registered a season-high nine service aces to lead the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth to a 3-1 victory over visiting Suffolk University this evening in a NCAA Division III women's volleyball match at the Tripp Athletic Center.

The Corsairs captured their second straight win with a 25-12, 26-28, 25-14, and 25-16 decision to improve to 8-9 on the season, while the Rams slipped to 6-10.

Filosa was dominant from the service line, accounting for nine of the Corsairs' 15 aces on the evening. She nearly tallied a double-double with 23 digs, along with one assist. Junior Eliza Bowes (West Yarmouth, Mass.) and junior Jasmine Burris (New Bedford, Mass. / Greater New Bedford) powered the hosts' attack with 11 kills each, while sophomore Christina Spinazola (Medway, Mass.) recorded 33 assists, 10 digs, and four service aces. Junior Brianna Perry (Acushnet, Mass. / New Bedford), the reigning Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III New England Defensive Player of the Week, anchored the back line with 43 digs and one helper.

Freshman Krista Iacobucci (Rocky Hill, Conn.) had a team-high 10 kills to go along with 18 digs to power the visitors. Six student-athletes reached double-digits in digs, led by junior Yabriela Perez (Dorchester, Mass. / Boston English) with 23. Freshman Liz Kerek (Holbrook, Mass.) earned two of the Rams' five service aces.
