Women’s Track & Field Runner-Up at CCC Championship

FRIDAY RECAP 

BRISTOL, R.I. – Suffolk women's outdoor track & field put a runner-up finish together at the 2024 Commonwealth Coast Conference Championships.

The Rams tied a program-best finish at the CCC Championships as runner-ups for the second straight season with 130 points to finish behind Endicott's 152 and ahead of the University of New England's 112. Gordon and Roger Williams rounded out the top five with 99 and 91 points, respectively.   

CCC CHAMPIONS
Suffolk claimed gold medals in five events: 

ALL-CCC
Suffolk student-athletes who placed first (gold medalist), second (silver medalist), or third (bronze medalist) in an event earned all-conference first-team, second-team, and third-team honors. 

RAMS RECORDS

  • Suffolk's 4x100 Relay Team of Conteh, Ortega, Concepcion, and Walden rewrote their Rams record with a 49.01-showing.  4x100 program-best 49.01
  • On her way to gold medalist honors, Battistoni set the Rams pole vault record twice.  

REGIONAL RAMS

RAMS RUNNERS

  • Madden hurled to second in the 100 hurdles with a 16.25 showing.
  • Jaenelle Bryant claimed ninth in the 400 hrudles with a 1:23.70 showing. 
  • Fogg paced Suffolk in the 1500 with a 4:52.61, good for third in the 24-runner field that featured Bailey Ford (5:12.51), Maria Gallant (6:06.28), Daisey Jones (6:17.68) and April Banuelos (6:27.46). 
  • In the 100, Walden clocked a 12.65 to claim second with Conteh directly behind her in third with a 12.79. Leticia Lantero finished 11th in 13.97 and Chelsea Fallon placed 14th in 14.39. 
  • Walden was also the runner-up in the 200 behind a 26.33 effort. Conteh clocked a 27.18 to take fourth and Concepcion was in sixth in 27.25. Rodriguez (28.02) placed seventh and Fallon (29.70) finished 18th.
  • Concepcion raced to first in the 400 with a 58.21-showing. Rodriguez (1:00.70) joined Concepcion on the podium in third. Kaylie Groom (1:03.22) and Jocelyn Triscik (1:05.93) were featured in the 16-sprinter field as well. 
  • Fogg was the runner-up in the 800 with a 2:21.87. Shannon Groom finished sixth behind a time of 2:32.42 and Mallory Taylor was two spots behind her in 2:33.31. 
  • Sarah Roberts recorded a 18:43.39 in the 5000, good for seventh. 

RAMS RELAYS

  • Both of Suffolk relay teams won their respective events. 
  • Conteh, Ortega, Concepcion and Walden ran the 4x100 in 49.01 to top the six-team field.
  • In the 4x400, Wladen, Kaylie Groom, Rodriguez and Concepcion combined for. 4:03.48.  

JUMPERS JIST

  • Suffolk claimed the first four spots in the pole vault. Battistoni won the event after clearing 3.43. Hennegan sealed up second with a 3.10 and Sickle took third with the same clearance. Sasha Helfgott-Waters rounded out the group in fourth with a 2.95. 
  • Brown won the high jump with a 1.52-meter showing. 
  • Helfgott-Waters claimed 10th in the triple jump with a 9.35-meter leap. 

THROWERS THOUGHTS

NOTEWORTHY

  • Concepcion (400) and the blue-and-gold's 4x100 and 4x400 Relay Teams repeated as CCC Champions in their respective events. 
  • Madden repeated as the CCC's runner-up in the 100 Hurdles. 
  • Battistoni is the first Ram to become CCC Champion in pole vault. 
  • Walden has finished on the podium in the 100 and 200 for three straight seasons. 
  • The 14 all-conference honorees are the most all-time for Suffolk in a single season, upstaging the previous record of 10 achieved in 2021 and 2023.
