Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Shines at Sean Collier Invitational

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Suffolk women's outdoor track & field competed for the final time before the 2024 Commonwealth Coast Conference Championships over the weekend at MIT's Sean Collier Invitational. Nine Rams rewrote their personal records, one program record fell and one clinched her spot at NCAA Division III New England regionals at the Henry G. Stein Brenner Track. 

REGIONAL RAMS

  • Sydney Fogg sealed her spot at New Englands in the 1500. The senior posted a 4:46.66, the top time in the CCC this season in the event and the second-best performance by a Ram in program history.   

RAMS RECORDS

  • Fogg's 1500 showing of 4:46.66 was not only a personal-best for the senior but is the top showing by a CCC student-athlete this season and is the second-best time in the event by a Ram in the program's record books. 
  • Bailey Ford notched a personal-best in the 1500 as well with a 5:16.72. 
  • Both JJ Conteh and Chelsea Fallon posted personal records in the 100. The former ran a 12.76 and the latter logged a 14.15. 
  • Shannon Groom rewrote her career-high in the 800 with a 2:4.50.
  • Conteh, Hilma Ortega, Emily Concepcion and Amanda Walden joined forces for a program-best 49.76 in the 4x100 Relay. 
  • Molly Hennegan cleared a career-high 3.10 meters in the pole vault. 
  • Evelyn Lansing logged a personal-best of 4.64m in the long jump.
  • Gracie O'Connell PR'd in the discus (27.27) and hammer (35.54). 
  • Lydia Comprosky compiled a career-high in the hammer of 26.58. 

RAMS RUNNERS

  • In the 100, Amanda Walden ran a New England standard qualifying time of 12.55 to finish second in the 31-runner race. Conteh was just off the podium in fourth with a 12.76 and Fallon rounded out the Rams trio in the event in 21st behind a time of 14.15. 
  • Walden notched another regionals qualifying time in the 200 of 26.00 to claim third out of 41 sprinters. The field featured Conteh (10th – 26.79), Emily Concepcion (17th – 27.42), Kaylie Groom (23rd – 28.04) and Hilma Ortega (28th – 28.45). 
  • Concepcion clocked a 59.90, a New England qualifying time, in the 400, good for eighth out of 23. Alyssa Rodriguez ran a lap around the track in 1:02.20 to finish in the middle of the 23-runner pack in 12th. 
  • Shannon Groom's 2:34.50 in the 800 put the sophomore in 23rd. 
  • Fogg won the 1500 with a 4:46.66. Ford (5:16.72), Maria Gallant  (6:14.37) and Daisey Jones (6:16.42) raced in the 36-runner event as well. 
  • Catherine Madden hurled to ninth in the 100 with a time of 16.35.  

RAMS RELAYS

  • The foursome of Conteh, Ortega, Concepcion and Walden combined for a 49.76 to take second in the 4x100 Relay.

POLE VAULT POINTS

  • Kara Sickle anchored Suffolk's four pole vaulters with a 10th-place performance behind a 3.25-meter effort. 
  • Hennegan was one spot behind Sickle in 11th at 3.10. 
  • Both Sasha Helfgott-Waters and Devyn Battistoni also cleared 3.10. They took 13th and 15th, respectively. 

JUMPERS JIST

  • Lansing's 4.64-meter leap in the long jump was good for eighth. 
  • Leticia Lantero put together a 4.29-meter long jump to take 12th.  

FIELDER'S FACTS

  • Divinety Johnson (23rd – 9.54m) and Maddie Moore (35th – 7.31m) represented the Rams in the shot put. 
  • Johnson (29th – 28.30m), O'Connell (32nd – 27.27m), Moore (34th – 26.54) and Comprosky (41st – 23.21) tried their hands in the discus. 
  • O'Connell (17th – 35.54m), Sharaden Caldwell (23rd – 32.18) and Comprosky (31st – 26.58) heaved the hammer throw. 
  • Olivia Nicholson threw the javelin 25.87 meters to capture 15th.  

WHAT'S NEXT?
Suffolk competes for the CCC crown April 25-27. The conference championships start Thursday with the Steeplechase at Gordon with the remainder of the action taking place Friday and Saturday at Portsmouth High School in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
