Women’s Track & Field Finishes Seventh at Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational

FITCHBURG, Mass. – In its second event in as many days, the Suffolk women's track & field team placed seventh at Fitchburg State's Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational Saturday. 

The Rams combined for 27 points to claim seventh in the 19-team field, which was topped by Keene State's score of 146.  

Individually, it was Suffolk's sprinters who stood out. 

In the 100-meter dash, a field comprised of 42 student-athletes, all runners in blue-and-gold finished inside the top 10. Mariama Kamara's time of 13.12 topped the field while Dahkensey Marcellus (14.14) and Grace Scholz (14.15)were separated by one-tenth of a second to place eighth and ninth, respectively.  

Scholz had a standout showing in the 200-meter dash as well with the freshman clocking in at 29.32 to claim 12th in the field of 42.  

Julianna Trost rounded out the true Rams' sprinters in the 400-meter dash with a 14th-place performance thanks to a time of 1:12.36.  

Julia Hunt competed in the 100-meter hurdles and finished the event in 18.80.  

Allison Rodrigues participated in a pair of events, the javelin throw and the discus throw. The freshman tossed the javelin 32.73 meters and threw the discus 26.88 meters. Savannah Hunter competed in the discus throw as well, upstaging Rodrigues throw with a toss of 28.40 meters, and tried her hand in the shot put, which she put together a 9.43-meter throw.  

The duo of Megan Qualters and Payton Dockus each participated in the pole vault. The former finished fourth, clearing 2.30 meters, while the latter shared sixth place after jumping 2.15 meters. 

Lindsey O'Dea (1.40 M)rounded out the Rams' competitors in the high jump. 

Suffolk will be back in action this weekend when it travels to Hooksett, New Hampshire, for the Southern New Hampshire Penman Relays Saturday, April 13.
