Ascic Garners Second-Team All-GNAC, Smith Earns Sportsmanship

GNAC RELEASE

WINTRHOP, Mass. – Suffolk women's tennis' sophomore co-captains Ilda Ascic and Kendall Smith were recognized by the conference for their efforts on the court this season with All-GNAC accolades. Ascic picked up a spot on the second-team, while Smith represented the Rams on the sportsmanship squad.

Ascic took over the blue-and-gold's top racquet in singles play. The Sarajevo, Bosnia native assembled the best singles record against the toughest competition with an overall 3-9 mark and a 2-5 league ledger.

In doubles action, Ascic partnered up with her classmate Smith as Suffolk's top tandem. The two members of the Class of 2022 produced a team-high 3-9 record and went 2-5 against conference competition from the first court.

The accolade marks the second straight second-team nod for Ascic, who made her debut on the league's second team a year ago.

Smith, who played exclusively in the Rams' second singles slot, was acknowledged for her outstanding dedication to sportsmanship and for her portrayal of good sportsmanship, fair play and a positive attitude.

Suffolk, who competed in the GNAC for the final time this season, has earned 50 all-league nods – six player of the year, three rookie of the year, 15 first-team singles, eight second-team singles and eight second-team doubles -- since joining the conference in 2007.
