Women’s Tennis Set for Simmons Regular-Season Showdown Saturday

BOSTON – The Suffolk women's tennis wraps up its 2018 regular-season Saturday, Oct. 13 when the Rams make the short trip across town and visit Simmons for a 3 p.m. GNAC contest.

LAST TIME OUT
The Suffolk women's tennis team wrapped up its home slate Saturday morning with a 7-2 setback to Johnson & Wales at North Reading High School.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk has already sealed its spot in the playoffs and will play Saturday for position as the 4-8 overall Rams are currently tied with Simmons in fifth with a 2-4 ledger. 

The Rams' will look upon is most successful racquet from the season in rookie Ilda Ascic to lead the way on Saturday. The freshman has held down the second slot in Suffolk's line-up and holds the best singles mark at 8-4. Classmate Jordan Miller also put together an 8-4 mark in the lower end of the ladder for the blue-and-gold. Delaney Dunlap has been Suffolk's exclusive ace in her senior season. Overall, Dunlap is 4-8 on the year.

In doubles, Ascic and Dunlap team up for Suffolk's top tandem and bring in a 6-6 ledger.

SHARKS SAYINGS
Simmons (4-8, 2-4 GNAC) has won two straight matches, both against conference counterparts, to prep for Suffolk. 

Paola Rios is the most successful singles player for the Sharks with a 6-5 mark scattered around courts two, three and four.  Nicki Nguyen has played all 11 matches for Simmons at No. 1 and brings in a 2-9 record. 

Nguyen has teamed up with Marissa Johnson as the No. 1 partnership for the Sharks. The juniors are 2-8 on the season. Michelle Medici and Rio prove to be the top team record wise for Simmons with the seniors combining for a 4-7 record.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Since 2000, Suffolk has met Simmons 24 times and trails the all-time series 2-22.
  • The Rams only victories over the Sharks came back-to-back in the 2007 season with a 5-4 thriller and 6-3 decision.
  • The Sharks have shutout the blue-and-gold five times with the last Simmons cleansheet over Suffolk coming in 2013.

Suffolk has one final match on its slate in the regular season with the Rams scheduled to visit Simmons Saturday, Sept. 13 for a 12 p.m. conference clash.
