Simmons Spoils Women’s Tennis GNAC Opener, 5-4

BOSTON, Mass. – The Suffolk women's tennis team traded points with Simmons, but the GNAC powerhouse was able to pull out the 5-4 victory at the Daly Courts Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk earned the first point of the match thanks to a win at No. 1 doubles, but the Rams were in a 1-2 hole entering singles action. The playing field quickly leveled and remained locked at 3-3. The Sharks put together back-to-back wins at spots five and six, respectively, to lock up its 60th straight regular-season GNAC win. A Rams victory in the fourth position closed the match 5-4. 

SUFFOLK STANDOUTS

  • Aidiana Sagyndykova and Valentina Medina continued to shine for Suffolk. The senior, junior partners quickly defeated Mai Driesen and Jessica Schroedl on court one doubles, 8-1, to put the Rams in front 1-0.  
  • With Suffolk trailing the match 1-2, Sagyndykova put together a golden match against Nickie Nguyen in the second slot to even the score at 2-2.
  • Medina followed suit equalizing the score once again at 3-3 thanks to a 6-1, 6-2, triumph over Schroedl on the first court.
  • With the match already sealed for the Sharks, Elena Cisneros Garcia took down Olivia Lakes, 7-5, 7-5, to make it a 5-4 final. 

COMING UP
Suffolk returns home for the first time since Sept. 8, when the Rams entertain Wentworth at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols Thursday, Sept. 22. First serve is set to begin at 6 p.m.
