Women’s Tennis Slips Up Against Simmons, 6-3

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its second GNAC match of the season, the Suffolk women's tennis team slipped to Simmons, 6-3, Saturday afternoon at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols.

Simmons (4-4, 3-0 GNAC) picked up the first two points of the afternoon after winning two doubles matches. On court one, Suffolk's (5-3, 1-1 GNAC) veteran partnership of Aidiana Sagyndykova and Rebecca Eshoo was swept by the Sharks' pair of Meg Cokely and Theresa Reinhard, 8-0. Lyndsay Reese and Isabel Rathlev battled with Mary Matthews and Ashley Chen in the third position, but it was the Simmons tandem that prevailed, 9-7. The Rams got on the board as their undefeated duo of Valentine Medina and Abby Trigilio kept their record perfect with a 9-7 triumph over Rachael Downey and Katie Crowley in the second slot.

In singles action, Simmons took the first three matches to secure the victory. Ashley Pierce took down the Rams' rookie Elena Cisneros, 6-0, 0-6, 6-2, in the sixth spot, before Eshoo fell to Crowley, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3. On court four, Trigilio was defeated by Downey, 6-0, 6-1.

With the victory locked up for the Sharks, Medina continued to prove why she has already garnered two conference rookie of the week accolades as she went the distance with Cokely and came out on top, 6-7, 6-3, 10-6.

Rathlev dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision to Chen at the fifth position, before Sagyndykova posted her eighth singles victory of the year in the form of a 7-5, 0-6, 7-6(8-6) triumph over Reinhard on court one.

With the September 2015 schedule in the book for Suffolk, the Rams return to action as the calendar flips to October with a trip to Springfield on Thursday (Oct. 1).
