Women's Tennis Earn 7-2 Win Over Wentworth

The Suffolk University Women's Tennis team earned their first win of the 2012 season with a victory of the Wentworth Institution of Technology Leopards on Thursday evening by a 7-2 score.

The Rams swept all three doubles matches before picking up four more victories in singles play to move to a 1-2 record on the young season, while the loss drops the Leopards to a 3-2 overall mark.

In the number one doubles game, senior Kelly Conrad (Lanstuhl, Germany) and sophomore Erica LeBlanc (Londonderry, N.H.) combined for an 8-5 victory over the Leopards' Caitlin Corcoran and Virginia Ofer.

LeBlanc was one of three Suffolk players to earn multiple wins on the evening for the Rams as she later went on to be the victor in singles play as she won the number two game in a tie-breaking third set 6-1.

Sophomore Adrianna Garrett (Plymouth, Mass.) and senior Allison Weisenbach (Hamden, Conn.) teamed up for an 8-3 victory in the second doubles game and then both players went on to earn victories in singles competition. Garrett was a winner in back-to-back 6-2 sets in the third individuals contest, while Weisenbach was an 8-4 victor in the fifth singles game.

Juniors Stacey Politis (Saugus, Mass.) and Melissa Chermely (Walpole, Mass.) moved to 2-1 on the year as a tandem with an 8-3 win in the final doubles match of the evening.

Junior Elizabeth Arkins (Melrose, Mass.) rounded out the Suffolk victories claiming the fourth singles match of the night. After dropping the first set 7-6 on a tiebreak, Arkins came back to win the next two games by 6-4 and 6-0 scores for the Rams.

The Rams will be back on the courts on Saturday as they host Emmanuel College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) at 2:00pm.
