Women's Tennis Top Blue Jays 8-1


The Suffolk University Women's Tennis team posted an 8-1 victory over St. Joseph College (CT) on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

With the win the Rams improve to 2-2 overall on the season as they earn their second win in GNAC play.

Senior Rebecca Copeland (Bristol, R.I.) earned a win in the top singles spot for the Rams as she was a 6-1, 6-0 winner.

Freshmen Adrianna Garrett (Plymouth, Mass.) and Erica LeBlanc (Londonderry, N.H.) were both multiple winners on the day for Suffolk as both picked up their team leading third victories of the season in singles play.

Garrett was a 6-3, 7-5 winner in the second singles game after she teamed with Elizabeth Arkins for a 8-4 victory in the second doubles contest of the day.

LeBlanc and senior Kelly Conrad (Lanstuhl, Germany) were 8-4 winners in the top doubles match before LeBlanc earned  a 6-1, 6-4 victory in the third singles match.

Sophomores Stacey Politis (Saugus, Mass.) and Melissa Chermely (Walpole, Mass.) earned the other two Suffolk wins in singles play as Politis took the fifth singles match, while Chermely posted straight 6-0 sets in the sixth match.

Junior Allison Weisenbach (Hamden, Conn.) and freshman Tram Nguyen (Randolph, Mass.) teamed for a 8-1 win in the third doubles match rounding out the eight victories on the day for the Rams.

Suffolk will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Rhode Island College for a non-conference matchup beginning at 3:30pm.
