Rodrigues Collects GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week Honor

WINTHROP, Mass. – Allison Rodrigues of Suffolk women's soccer team was selected as the GNAC Goalkeeper of the Week after a two-shutout week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. 

The Rams co-captain opened the week with a four-save effort in Buzzards Bay when the blue-and-gold sailed past Mass. Maritime, 10-0, Sept. 9. Five days later in the conference opener, she stopped six shots to help blank Simmons, 2-0. 

Her back-to-back cleansheet performances in between the posts helped Suffolk improve to 3-1-0 on the season, its best start since 2016. Thanks to her effort in net in the league debut, the Rams its conference campaign in the win column for the second time in program history, first since 2016.  

The shutouts are the sophomores second and third, respectively, of the season bring her career total to seven. 

Dating back to the end of the 2018 campaign, Rodrigues has held five shutouts in her last six appearances. 

Rodrigues, who picked up her first weekly nod, became the first player to earn a weekly conference honor in the Ashley Van Vechten era, and first since Caleigh O'Brien was tabbed GNAC Rookie of the Week Sept. 18, 2017. Goalie wise, Rodrigues is the first Rams' backstop with the best gloves in the league over a seven day stretch since Kirsten Weiker achieved the feat Oct. 31, 2016.  

Next up on Rodrigues and Suffolk's calendar is a trip to the Granite State, Saturday, Sept. 21 when the Rams trek to Colby Sawyer for a GNAC showdown. The conference contest is set for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
