Women’s Soccer Upended at Lesley

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Suffolk women's soccer suffered a 6-0 setback Thursday night to Lesley at Edwards Field. 

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENEDED
Lesley poured in three goals in the first frame and matched that in the second stanza, while keeping the Rams off the scoreboard through the duration of the contest to lock up the 6-0 victory. 

GOALS

  • Just five minutes into play, sophomore midfielder Kaitlin Scott crossed a ball to the front of the net where senior Karlie Rubin was left wide open. The perfect ball from Scott gave Rubin the opportunity for a one time strike and first goal of the match, her sixth of the season.
  • Ten minutes later, the Lynx found the back of the net off a long ball from junior Jordan Mitchell, who connected with charging Scott in front of Suffolk's goalie Kirsten Weiker. Mitchell sent a deep ball to the back post and Scott came charging across to beat Weiker to the ball and knock it in for the Lynx's second goal of the night.
  • Lesley kept its scoring pace going with their third goal of the first half in the 21st minute. Mitchell picked up another assist and lifted a ball to the middle that skipped through the defense and found junior Samantha Bessey. Bessey was able to control the ball, make a one touch move past the a charging Weiker for the marker.
  • Senior Samantha Turnbull headed a ball off a corner from junior Kai Morehead for the Lynx first goal of the second half.
  • Senior Samantha Ring sent a shot off a deep throw in from sophomore Julia De Mars for another goal with 11:33 remaining in the contest.
  • The final strike of the match was blasted past Julia Fieldsend, who was sent in to guard Suffolk's post at the beginning of the second half, by freshman Maddie Deitrick. Ring assisted on Lesley's sixth tally. 

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Fieldsend ended the second half with seven saves, while the Rams' starter, Weiker, turned aside eight shots.
  • Lilly Donovan improved to 3-0 on the season, while Jill Narby made one save in relief effort, playing the entire second half for the Lynx. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • The Lynx paced the possession of the first 45 minutes, holding an advantage on shots, 13-2, and corners, 4-1.
  • Through the final 45, Lesley outshot the Rams, 13-1, to finish the night with a 26-2 advantage on shots for the night. 
  • Jennifer Martin was responsible for a pair of Suffolk's shots and the only shot on target. 

NOTEABLES

  • Fieldsend saw her first action of the season in net for Suffolk.
