Women’s Soccer Collects Silver NSCAA Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award

2016 NSCAA College Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award Winners

BOSTON – The Suffolk women's soccer team has been recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for exhibiting fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the laws of the game, the association announced Thursday afternoon.

The Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Award is given to NSCAA members at four levels. Teams honored at the platinum level went an entire season without a player or coach receiving a yellow card or red card. Teams honored at the gold (1-10%), silver (11-30%) and bronze (31-50%) levels are based on percentage calculated by the total number of cards received by players/coaches divided by the team's total number of games played.

The Rams earned a spot in the silver category after receiving just four yellow cards in Suffolk's longest season in its 10-year history of 21 games. Suffolk is one of 56 institutions in the silver category and is the only representative of the GNAC on the 98-team list.

Suffolk's 10th campaign and second under the guidance of head coach Darren Lloyd ended with an exclamation point as the blue and gold put together the most success season since 2011, one which saw the Rams finish 11-10-0 (5-6-0 GNAC), which marks the second highest victories in program annals. Three Suffolk players - juniors Jennifer Martin and Alexandra Nagri and senior Shannon Simmons - brought home All-GNAC accolades and helped the Rams to the GNAC semifinals as the tournament's seventh seed.
