Women's Soccer Tops Emerson 4-2

The Suffolk University Women's Soccer team extended their unbeaten streak to eight games as they topped the Emerson College Lions in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday. With the win the Rams ensure themselves a spot in next weekend's eight-team single elimination GNAC Tournament.

Sophomore Gabrielle Balestrier (Mohnton, Pa.) netted two goals and added an assist to improve the Suffolk season record to 9-6-1 as they pick up their seventh win in GNAC play this year.

The Rams scored three times in the first half as senior Lauren Cameron (Kingston, Jamaica) once again opened the scoring netting her eighth goal of the year as she kicked in a loose ball fourteen minutes into the contest.

Senior Meghan Froehl (Cheshire, Conn.) would even the game at one a piece in the thirtieth minute of the contest. The Emerson goal was the first scored against the Rams in their past seven games, ending the scoreless minutes streak of freshman goalkeeper Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, Conn.) at 617 minutes.

Senior Leslie Hayden (Ross, Calif.) would put the Rams right back on top as she spurned the Lions defense for her 70th career goal five minutes later.

Balestrier would add her second goal of the game as she would convert on a pass from junior Kelsey Cavaretta (Marcellus, N.Y.) for what would turn out to be the game-winner.

Junior Kara Pantano (Rockland, Mass.) would cut the Rams edge in half as she would score her fourth goal of the year with twenty minutes remaining in the contest, before Balestrier secured the victory for the Rams scoring her second goal of the contest with a minute and a half remaining.

The GNAC playoffs will open up next Saturday as the eight-team bracket has yet to be released.

Suffolk will close out the regular season on Tuesday as they take on Gordon College in non-conference action at 3:00pm.
