Women's Soccer Falls to Emmanuel 2-1

The Emmanuel College Women's Soccer Team scored two second-half goals enroute to a 2-1 win over the visiting Rams of Suffolk University in the second half of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) double-header played on the pitch at Clemente Field on Saturday afternoon.  The win boosts the Saints to 7-2 on the season and 3-2 in the league, while Suffolk drops to 2-5 overall and 0-4 in GNAC play.

The visitors dominated the early portion of the game and owed several early scoring opportunities.  Suffolk outshot Emmanuel, 10-7, in the opening forty-five minutes.  The Rams found the scoreboard first with a goal from junior midfielder Kelsey Cavaretta (Marcellus, N.Y.).  Sophomore Monica Wolf (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) found Cavaretta on a cross from the right side and she pushed the ball past Emmanuel keeper Jessica D'Ottavio (Pawling, N.Y.) just thirteen minutes into the game.

Suffolk maintained the one-goal edge for the remainder of the half and shortly into the second frame.  A tired Saints club came out of the break re-energized and fought back to quickly knot things up.

Sophomore forward Darcey Sullivan (Dalton, Mass.) sent a nice cross from the left side into the middle of the box, which found classmate Lindsey Garvey (Warwick, R.I.) for her 10th goal of the season.  The equalizer came at 52:33.

Scoreless play ensued for the next twenty minutes.  Emmanuel netted the go-ahead goal on a deflection made by Suffolk keeper Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, Conn.).  Brouillette made a great save off a shot by Emmanuel freshman Kelsie Dumas (Dalton, Mass.), but junior forward Meghan Zerba (Cumberland, R.I.) knocked in the game-winner on the rebound.
