Women’s Hockey Tops Western New England, 4-1

EAST BOSTON – In an action packed third period, Suffolk women's hockey prevailed past Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) counterpart Western New England, 4-1, Friday night at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink. Seven Rams chipped in at least one points and Lily O'Neil recorded 11 saves in the league victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In a game controlled by the blue-and-gold, the scoring was limited to the final frame. 

Shana Cote lit the lamp first as the graduate student used a set-up from Elise Wainwright and Miranda Gaudet to erase the zero from Suffolk's side of the scoreboard 1:58 into the third period.  

Less than four minutes later, Gaudet put her own puck away to double the distance. She had help from Livia Brehm and Cote to stretch the gap two 2-0. 

Western New England pulled back within one at 13:09 when Emma Birmingham converted Allison Walker's pass into a goal. Alexa Paoli assisted on the Golden Bears first goal of the night. 

Jesse Kennedy chipped in her first of the game at the 16:18 mark to restore the two-goal advantage for the host. The senior scored with help from Cassidy Gruning and Wainwright. 

Kennedy put the game away when she scored an empty netter with 1:18 remaining in regulation. Sam Molind aided the senior's second goal of the night. 

NETMINDER NOTES

  • O'Neil tallied 11 saves in the victory. 
  • Rieley Jessie-Gerelli registered a 52-save performance in her first loss of the year.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Kennedy scored a pair of goals for the Rams. 
  • Cote and Gaudet registered two points as well with one goal and one assist apiece. 
  • Wainwright dished out two assists. 
  • Brehm, Gruning, and Molind handed out one assist each. 
  • Suffolk held an overwhelming advantage in shots, 56-12. 
  • The Rams won the face-off battle as well, 28-18. 
  • WNE successfully skated off all four of its penalties. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk moved to 3-1-0 all-time against Western New England. 
  • The Rams have won three games in a row versus the Golden Bears. 
  • The outing was the first non-shutout between Suffolk and WNE. 
  • Suffolk remains unbeaten, 2-0-0 versus WNE in Eastie. 
  • The blue-and-gold has outscored the Golden Bears 13-5 in the all-time series. 
  • Kennedy matched a personal-best in goals scored (2). 
  • Molind stretched her point streak to three games. In that span she has registered three helpers. 
  • Brehm (2a) and Gaudet (1g, 2a) have produced points in back-to-back games.
