Women’s Hockey Overtakes No. 13 Endicott in Overtime, 2-1

BEVERLY, Mass. – In a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) case of déjà vu, Suffolk women's hockey and No. 13 Endicott ended regulation deadlocked at 1-1. Thankfully for the Rams, history did not repeat itself from the night before as Madison Duff ended up putting away the game-winner on a breakaway in overtime to lift the blue-and-gold past the Gulls, 2-1, at Raymond J. Bourque Arena Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | No. 13 Endicott 1
RECORDS: Suffolk (6-2-0, 5-1-0 CCC) | No. 13 Endicott (5-3-0, 4-2-0 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Endicott earned the edge just over six minutes into the action. Sydney Fascetta's winning face-off at the right circle in Suffolk's zone sent the puck to Catherine Milles, who took it in towards the net for a one-on-one with Lily O'Neil. The Gull went high stick side for the game-opening goal.

Suffolk looked to catch up in the middle period, but Michaela O'Brien kept the edge in Endicott's favor at the second intermission.

The Rams would not have to play one-goal down for long in the third as Miranda Gaudet equalized matters 2:03 into the final period of regulation. Shana Cote won a battle on the boards nearly behind the cage and passed out to Liliana Moose at the blue line, who shuffled a pass over to Leslie Steiner. Steiner's slap shot was denied by O'Brien, but Gaudet was there to pick up the pieces and poke the puck past the Gulls goalie to lock things at 1-all.

The blue-and-gold saw a chance to capture the victory in regulation when Teaghan Hall was whistled for cross checking with 2:25 left on the clock in the third. Taylor Wasylk used her timeout to draw up the special teams play. O'Brien helped her team stay in it as she turned aside the two shots the Rams managed to get off in the final two minutes to force the extra frame.

In overtime, O'Neil was tested first as Hall put an attempt on target just about 15 seconds in. The junior did her job to keep the Rams hopes alive.

O'Brien did the same with Duff's first attempt of OT, but the same can't be said for the senior captain's second. Madison Ricardo lost an edge in the Gulls zone and the host looked to capitalized on the 3-on-2. As Endicott skated towards Suffolk's net, pressure by Livia Brehm paid off. The freshman gained possession for the Rams and played the puck into the neutral zone to Sam Molind. Molind found Duff wide open. The defense surged ahead for a one-on-one with O'Brien and went glove side for the game-winner.
