Women’s Hockey Shutouts Salve Regina in CCC Opener, 2-0

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. – Suffolk women's hockey potted a pair of goals over a two-minute span in the middle period and Julia McLellan had a perfect performance in net en route to a 2-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference victory over Salve Regina at St. George's Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Following a scoreless first frame, Shana Cote started the scoring for Suffolk in the second. The graduate student captain put away a Miranda Gaudet set-up 7:48 into the second to push the Rams on the scoreboard.   

Just 2:08 later, Sam Molind padded the margin with her first goal of the year with help from Cassidy Gruning

Suffolk maintained that advantage the rest of the way as McLelaln did her job, stopping Salve Regina's attempts over the final 20 minutes to secure the shutout.  

NETMINDER NOTES

  • McLellan finished with 21 saves. 
  • Elle Kopecky had 22 stops in the setback.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Cote and Molind were responsible for Suffolk's goals. 
  • Gaudet and Gruning dished out one assist apiece. 
  • Suffolk edged out Salve Regina in shots, 24-21.
