No. 7 Norwich Upends Women’s Hockey

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Molly Dowd made history as the first Ram to pot a puck against the Cadets, but it would not be enough for Suffolk women's hockey, who feel to No. 7 Norwich, 9-1, Saturday afternoon at Kreitzberg Arena.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 1 | No. 7 Norwich 9
RECORDS: Suffolk (7-12-3, 7-6-1 NEHC) | No. 7 Norwich (16-4-2, 12-0-0 NEHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Norwich lit up the scoreboard twice in a 3:30 span in the first frame to quickly build a two-goal lead. That edge doubled with less than three minutes to play that would double at the end of the first period as the Cadets scored another pair to take a four-goal cushion into the first intermission.

The nationally ranked hosts continued to pile up the points in the middle period. This time Norwich used a pair of power plays to extend the margin to six after 40 minutes.

Suffolk was the first to strike out of the locker room in the third. The Cadets defense got caught pinching, which set up Dowd for a nice breakaway. The sophomore shot glove side top corner to erase the cleansheet. Kiley Searles had a go-ahead pass to set-up the scoring play that Sydney Tietz assisted on as well.

Momentum from Dowd's goal was not enough, though, as Norwich tacked on three more markers for the final 9-1 margin.
