BOSTON – Suffolk women's hockey will drop the puck on its second New England Hockey Conference season this weekend when the Rams visit Plymouth State Friday, Nov. 8 at 6:00 p.m., before lifting the lid on its home opener the following night against Castleton. Game time at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Rink Saturday, Nov. 9 is set for 5:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk women's hockey found itself in an early hole in never climbed out of as Nazareth skated away with the opening weekend closer, 6-1, November 2 at Bill Gray's Regional Iceplex.

RAMS REVIEW
Suffolk fell in its opening-weekend two-game series at Nazareth to enter the second weekend of 2019-20 at 0-2-0.  

The Rams lone goal in Rochester, New York, came off Shana Cote's stick with help from Haley Poloskey.

Julia McLellan earned the nod in each of the Rams outings in the Empire State. The freshman netminder holds a 4.77 GAA and a .855 save percentage. Kristen Caporusso saw limited time against the Golden Flyers and saved the trio of shots she faced. 

NEHC OPENERS

  • Suffolk is 1-0-0 in its first NEHC outing of the year after pulling the curtain back on the conference campaign a year ago with a 3-0 shutout of Johnson & Wales. 
  • The Rams will compete on the road in its first league outing of the year for the first time. 
  • Suffolk and Plymouth State will meet in the blue-and-gold's conference debut for the first time. 

HOME DEBUT

  • Suffolk is 0-1-0 in its first outing on its home ice in program history after falling to Nichols, 2-1, in the inaugural home game a year ago Oct. 27, 2018. 
  • The Rams will entertain Castleton in its home opener for the first time. 

PANTHERS PROWL
Plymouth State dropped an overtime season debut at Franklin Pierce, 5-4, to enter the weekend 0-1-0 on the year. 

Sydney Linnick is the leader in points after day one as the senior defensemen set-up three shots in the opener. Julia Nagel is second on the squad in points behind a one-goal, one-assist stat line. Alexis Fagan, Alie Louie and Marykate Thompson each potted one puck against the Ravens with Caitlin Connor rounding out the Panthers with points with one helper.  

Becca Bridge started in net for PSU. The freshman goaltender holds a 4.80 GAA and a .909 save percentage after a 50-save collegiate debut. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk split the regular-season matchups with the Panthers a year ago to sit 1-1-0 versus the Panthers all-time. 
  • The Rams won the battle in the Bay State, 3-1, November 31, and fell in the Granite State, 3-2, Feb. 9. 

EYES ON THE GAME
 

SPARTANS SAYINGS
Castleton dropped its two-game opening-weekend series against Oswego State to sit 0-2-0 on the year. Prior to visiting Eastie on Saturday, the Spartans will pay Salem State at visit Friday, Nov. 8.  

Courtney Gauthier and Brooke Greenwood pace the four-goal offense with two points behind one-goal and one-assist, respectively. Samantha Lawler and Maeghan Vasile scored once for the Spartans, while Ryanne Mix, Darby Palisi and Casey Traill have each set-up one strike. 

Alexis Kalm started each outing in between the pipes for Castleton. The netminder put together a 4.96 GAA and .884 save percentage over two appearances. Katlyn Hathaway made an appearance in net as well and stop all 14 shots she faced. 

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk is unbeaten all-time versus Castleton, 2-0-0. 
  • The Rams put identical 4-2 victories together of the Spartans last season.
