GORHAM, Maine – Suffolk women's hockey could not break open a 2-all second-period tie despite outshooting Southern Maine 15-6 over the third period and extra session resulting in a 2-2 NEHC draw Friday night at USM Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Huskies scored the only goal of the opening frame when Rylie Binette deposited the rebound of Jensen Hamblett's shot behind Kristen Caporusso with exactly one minute left on the clock.
Rams' rookie Sydney Tietz tied the game at 6:24 of the second period when she collected a long indirect pass from Grace Scholz. Tietz then skted into the left-wing circle and beat USM's Britney Evangelista up high for a power-play marker.
Tess Adams gave Suffolk the go ahead, 2-1, lead at 16:08 with an unassisted strike off a face-off. The USM center cleanly won the draw, but Adams beat everyone to the loose puck and flipped a shot by Evangelista.
USM got the equalizer 3:23 later when Colbert redirected a left-win circle shot by Jill Hannigan to even the score with 29 seconds remaining in the middle period.
Suffolk piled up a 12-3 edge in shots on the goal in the third period, but could not find a way to beat Evangelista.
Both sides had three attempts on target in the five-minute overtime, with the Rams having the better opportunities including an apparent game-winning goal that was waved off midway through the overtime after the official ruled the whistle had sounded before the puck was dug out from under Evangelista and shot into the net.
NETMINDER NOTES
- Caporusso backstopped a 22-save effort.
- Evangelista finished the session with 31 stops to her credit.
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
- Adams and Tietz were responsible for Suffolk's two strikes with Scholz handing out the lone helper on the day for the Rams.
- Suffolk outshot USM, 33-24.

- Suffolk remains unbeaten all-time versus USM and moved to 1-0-1 versus the Huskies.
- The Rams played in their second-ever overtime contest.
