Women’s Hockey Outlasts Salem State, 4-2

EAST BOSTON – The Suffolk women's hockey team score four unanswered goals to take down Salem State, 4-2, Saturday night at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first frame, the Rams got on the board with a pair of goals over a 2:38 minute span to gain a two-goal edge in the second stanza. Haley Poloskey started things off with a shorthanded strike with just over five minutes remaining in the middle period. Kiley Searles followed suit with just less than three minutes remaining in the stanza for the two-goal margin in the blue-and-gold's favor.  

Suffolk picked things up where they left on in the third period. Just 3:19 into the action in the final period Poloskey potted her second goal of the day to stretch the Rams' lead to three and Tess Adams lit the lamp at the 9:21 minute mark to extend the host's advantage to four.   

The Vikings made a move with just over five minutes to play and cut the margin in half with another score less than two minutes later. Up 4-2, Suffolk kept Salem State there to hold on for the conference victory.   

NETMINDER NOTES

  • Kristen Caporusso registered 22 saves in the win. 
  • Sarah Plourde had 31 stops to her credit in the setback.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Poloskey contributed a pair of goals to Suffolk's offense, which saw Adams and Searles also find the back of the net. 
  • Shana CoteJesse Kennedy and Grace Scholz all handed out one assist.
  • Suffolk outshot Salem State, 35-24, but it was the Vikings who took the face-off dot battle, 29-21.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • The Rams defeated the Vikings for the first-time in the all-time series to lock up the all-time meetings at one win apiece. 
  • Searles recorded her first collegiate point with her first career goal. 
  • Adams pushed her point streak to five. Over that stretch the senior has recorded five points on three goals and two helpers. 
  • Cote has tallied points in back-to-back outings. 
  • Poloskey has provided a career-high two goals in two straight games.
