Women’s Hockey Shoots Past JWU, 3-0, in NEHC Opener

EAST BOSTON – The Suffolk women's hockey team lifted the lid on its New England Hockey Conference schedule with a 3-0 victory as the Rams kept Johnson & Wales off the scoreboard at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink Saturday night.

SCORE: Suffolk 3, Johnson & Wales 0
RECORDS: Suffolk (2-2-0, 1-0-0 NEHC) | Johnson & Wales (0-4-0, 0-2-0 NEHC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
With time dwindling in the first Julia Volpe got things going for Suffolk. Haley Poloskey found Volpe in front of the Wildcats' net and Volpe put away Poloskey's pass to give the Rams a one-goal edge with 2:13 remaining in the first frame. Stephanie Moy also had a hand in the score.

With one second remaining on Suffolk's penalty kill Shana Cote was set-up by Volpe for a short-handed strike just 1:56 into the second period to push the Rams' edge to two.

Nearly five minutes later, this time seven seconds after Suffolk's power play expired Poloskey picked up the pieces of Sydney Jordan's shot. The freshman from Mattawan, Michigan, lifted the puck over Jasmine Mucci's pads glove slide to extend the hosts advantage to three.

The Wildcats came out of the locker room determined to break onto the scoreboard. Suffolk's defense had other things in mind though and held off JWU including when the visitors used a last-ditch effort by pulling Mucci for the final 1:46. In that time Kristen Caporusso turned aside all three shots she faced to secure the shutout.
