Women’s Golf Runner-Up at NWGC Championships

VOORHEESVILLE, N.Y. – Suffolk women's golf secured second place at the NWGC Championships Sunday at the Colonie Country Club.

The Rams took second in the six-team field behind a team card of 381. Suffolk was 21 strokes behind the champion, SUNY Cortland. The blue-and-gold's 381 was one stroke behind the team's one-day course record, which it shot at on the first day of the two-day 2020 championships that the Rams finished third in.

Individually, Ellie Yarbrough made the most on the first championship course of her collegiate career. The freshman from Killingworth, Connecticut, placed fourth with a score of 90. Yarborough's classmate, Isabel Smith, was one stroke behind Yarbrough, while Nicole Antonucci was three strokes behind for the senior to share the sixth spot along with Husson's Katie Goulet and SUNY Cortland's Alivia Waldron.

For their efforts, Yarbrough, Smith and Antonucci each garnered All-NWGC honors. The three all-league selections are the most for the Rams in the two-year history that the awards have been handed out. Antonucci is the first-ever Ram to pick up a pair of all-conference honors. Yarbrough and Smith, meanwhile, are the first freshman in the Rams' record books to earn all-league accolades.

Madison Scheinberg also took to the links in the Empire State. The junior recorded a 107 on the 18-hole course.

Suffolk's 2021 season wraps up next weekend with a pair of head-to-head matches. The Rams will rematch with the NWGC Champions SUNY Cortland Saturday, May 1 at the Edison Club in Redrod, New York, before taking on Worcester State at the Blackstone National Golf in Sutton, Massachusetts on Sunday, May 2.
