Women’s Golf Garners Empire 8 Academic Team Status, Three Rams Named to President’s List

EMPIRE 8 ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM | EMPIRE 8 PRESIDENT'S LIST

BOSTON – For the second straight semester Suffolk women's golf has been recognized for its accomplishments inside the classroom as the second-year program earned Empire 8 Academic Team distinction, while the trio of Nicole Antonucci, Aine Dillon and McKenzie McGrath all earned spots on the conference's President's List.

Jay Parker's Rams have brought home the academic accolade in both semesters it has been eligible after joining the Empire 8 ranks in the program's second varsity season in the Fall of 2017. In order to achieve the feat, the team must combine for a grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the spring semester. Suffolk's six-player roster totaled a 3.419 GPA for the Spring of 2018 to become one of 122 Empire 8 teams taking home the recognition.

To be a President's List honoree, recipients must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher, while participating in a league-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. For the Spring of 2018, the Empire 8 honored 816 student-athletes from its nine full-time members and 14 affiliate institutions. Suffolk saw three Rams honored for the second time in as many semesters with Antonucci and Dillon earning the feat in each of the semesters, while McGrath picked up the accolade for the first time in her career.

The academic success comes on the heels of a standout second season for the women's golf program, who finished as runner up at the Empire 8 Championships in the fall before taking home the NEIGA Title a weekend later. In the New England Championship Antonucci, Brooke Chapman, and McGrath became the first Suffolk golfer's, both men or women, to take home All-New England honors and did so in first team fashion. The Rams carried their fall success into the spring where they captured the Westfield State Invitational title.
