Women’s Golf Earns Empire 8 All-Academic Team, Three Rams Tabbed to President’s List

BOSTON – After a record setting fall season in just its second-year as a varsity program, the Suffolk women's golf team adds more accomplishments to its growing list as the team was recognized for its achievements inside the classroom. As a team, Suffolk brought home Empire 8 Academic Team distinction, while Nicole Antonucci, Brooke Chapman and Aine Dillon were all honored on the President's List, the league office announced Tuesday.

In order to achieve the feat, recipients of the honor must earn a 3.75 grade point average or higher, while participating in a conference-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. For the 2017 fall semester, the Empire 8 recognized 796 student-athletes on the President's List.

Champman led the way as one of eight Suffolk student-athletes enrolled in full-time fall classes to achieve a perfect 4.0, while Antonucci and Dillon each earned 3.920 and 3.929 GPAs, respectively.

The trio, who all earned spots on Suffolk's Athletic Director Honor Roll, anchored the Suffolk squad that produced a team GPA of 3.551.

Overall, the conference acknowledged 126 teams as an Empire 8 All-Academic Team for registering a team grade point average of 3.2 of higher for the fall semester. The 126 teams mark the highest number of the teams to earn the Academic honor in one semester, with the previous mark of 123 teams to achieve the 3.2 standard was sent in the spring of 2017.

Suffolk looks to continue its success on the green and in the classroom in April as it tees off for the first time as a varsity program in the spring season in 2018. Second semester action is set to get underway at the JWU Invitational Saturday, April 7.
