Women’s Basketball Flies by Wentworth, 55-36, for Fifth Straight Win

BOSTON – Suffolk women's basketball rattled off its fifth consecutive victory Saturday afternoon in convincing fashion as is the Rams coasted by Wentworth, 55-36, in CCC play at Tansey Gymnasium.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 55 | Wentworth 36
RECORDS: Suffolk (16-5, 10-3 CCC) | Wentworth (4-15, 0-12 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk's game-opening 6-0 run turned into a 14-6 advantage at the 3:14 mark after every Ram started poured in at least two points. Amanda DeAngelis had six points to her credit at this point.

The Leopards scored seven straight, five of which came from Regan Madonia, to trim the distance down to one, 14-13, with just over a minute to go in the first frame.

Aisling Crowley converted a pass from Lauren Romito into her first two points of afternoon to pad the margin to three, 16-13, as the horn signaled to end the opening quarter.

The blue-and-gold burst out of the huddle with 10 unanswered points to build a 26-13 cushion midway through the second stanza. All four field goals in that time frame came in transition.

Out of a Wentworth huddle, Suffolk kept the gas pedal down offensively and used stand-up defense to keep the Leopards off the scoreboard for the final four minutes of the second quarter to take a 32-13 advantage into half time.

Brooke Carlson buried a bucket from behind-the-arc to get the Leopards their offensive grove back. With momentum thanks to that long ball from Carlson that started the quarter, Wentworth outscored Suffolk 14-9 in the third to trim the gap to 14, 41-27.

That margin (14 points) hung around for the first three minutes of the fourth. Out of a Wentworth timeout, Suffolk built a 20-plus point lead over the next two minutes thanks to eight consecutive points.

It was clock management and shot selection for the Suffolk the rest of the way to lock up the conference victory, the Rams fifth win in a row.
